doula support

The word “doula” (think Paula “Abdul…a”) comes from ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth.  I serve all areas of San Diego County but am located in North County. I believe in the power that birth has in a family’s story, and I treat all birth with the dignity, honor, and respect that this life changing event deserves.  It is a humbling road to walk with families, engaging in these intimate moments with them, and I am honored to be a part of those transforming moments. No matter what your birth looks like, you deserve compassionate, honoring care from an empathic and trustworthy team.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily. Amazing, right?! !

As a birth doula I:

*Recognize birth as a key experience you will remember all your life
*Understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
*Assist you in preparing for and carrying out your birth preferences
*Stay with you throughout the labor and immediately postpartum
*Provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint    *Help you work with the information you receive to allow you and your partner to make an informed decision
*Facilitate communication between you, your partner, and your clinical care providers
*Perceive my role as nurturing and protect your memory of the birth experience
*Allow dad to solely focus on you, facilitating his participation in the labor experience at his comfort level

As a birth doula I do NOT:

*Speak for you or your family
*Perform any type of clinical care or tasks including  but not limited to: vaginal exams, temperature taking, or checking baby’s heart tones
